Chinese wax gourd (scientific name:Benincasa hispida (Thunb.) Cogn.), an annual trailing or shelving herb of the genus Cucurbitaceae, having stems covered with yellowish-brown bristles and pubescent, ridges, stout petioles covered with coarse bristles and pubescent, monoecious, solitary flowers, large fruits with bristles and glaucous, and ovate seeds.
Wax gourd is mainly distributed in other tropical and subtropical areas of Asia, and cultivated in all parts of China.Found wild in southern Yunnan (Xishuangbanna), China, the fruit is much smaller.It is also found in eastern Australia and Madagascar.
